Day 05 - Free and Easy

It was a free and easy day for us today! I woke up at 11am. It has been a long time since I slept till such a late timing. Had been sleeping late and waking up really early ever since I’m in Wuhan. So, it’s a good day for me to catch some sleep. Well, since it’s a free day for us, we decided to explore Wuhan and look for some shopping places, as well as streets that sell their local food! With the help of Yan Fang, we managed to contact some of the local students and they brought us around Wuhan.  They are really kind to spend their own free time with us. Thanks so much! :D

We had noodles for our lunch. But we only managed to eat a few mouthfuls and the china students came.

Yan Fang's umbrella. It has the pooh printings.

Me and Yan Fang. It's a sunny day.

Yan Fang and Betty, one of the local students.

On our way to bus stop.

In the campus.

Trees.

We have finally reached the bus stop after a long walk. We were supposed to take bus 549 to reach our destination.

Betty and Yuan yuan, the 2 local students were checking the board showing the buses available.

Me and Hidayah. She was mistaken for being a chinese for several times. I think she looks like one:)

Public Bus.

Me and Jasmin.

Sharing photos. We were so bored while waiting for the bus to arrive, so photos were taken.

Another bus came, but it's not ours:(

Here's Yan Fang posing for the camera. & we're still waiting patiently.

Hana with her sunglasses; Jasmin and Yan Fang with their funny expressions:)

Me and Hana.

Here's another bus. I realised that the intervals of buses are actually quite fast as compared to Singapore. Every few min, we would be able to see buses arriving at the bus stop.

The bus came, but it was full. We had no choice but to wait for the next bus since our group is quite large.

Rani and me.

Our bus finally arrived after a few min.

Boarding the bus. In China, the ticket for bus ride is 2 yuan per person, no matter how long the distance may be. Converting to Singapore dollars, it's only $0.40. It's cheap!

Cindy and Hidayah; Sarah and Yan Fang.

A line to remind the passengers not to destroy the public property, otherwise fines will be imposed.

After we alighted, we took a short walk to the shopping mall.

Here's the underpass.

Yan Fang and Jasmin.

Mascot for the Shanghai Expo Exhibition.

The Shopping mall we went. It is something similar to Singapore's takashimaya.

Police car. Police is known as 公安 in China whereas in Singapore, it's known as 警察.

The shopping mall we went was Wuhan Plaza. The five different clocks show the time around the world.

Listening attentively for the instructions given.

Carol, Dion and Eddy.

Weird-looking jacket. It looks cute though:)

Extremely large Crocs shoe.

Surprisingly, we actually found a food court selling Singapore food. It should be started by Singaporeans, i guess. We tried the roti prata, dim sum, ice kacang, mango icy dessert, as well as sushi. They were delicious, especially the mango dessert. However, photo-taking were not allowed, hence there were no photos for the food. The payments for the food in this food court is to be made through a card topped-up with value at the cashier.

Outside the shopping mall.

Statue with a man's head and horse's body. This reminds me of the horoscope, Saggitaurus.

Wuhan Plaza.

Bags were not given in supermarkets and are charged if you need it. Here's a photo showing a woman carrying a bucket of oil.

A new experience for all. We had to rush across the road and beware of any oncoming vehicles for the traffic was really bad. It was scary walking on their roads!

Haagen-Dazs outlet.

Paul Frank.

Night scenery.

Yan Fang feeling happy with the shopping bags in her hands. What a great time i had shopping!

Walking along the food street.

Tako Yaki which costs only 3 yuan.

3 dogs of different breeds and different sizes. They seem to be communicating with one another:)

Shops.

At around 9 plus, we finally managed to take the public bus and eventually reached the hostel at 10:30 pm. It was so dark by then, so torch lights and other light sources enabled us to find our way to our hostels.

Here's the local food introduced by the local students. It's called 生煎包. It's not too bad:)

Reflections: In China, traffic is congested and not well-organized. Drivers could drive anywhere they like without abiding the safety rules on road. It’s a common sight to see cars rushing at high speeds, not stopping to allow pedestrians to cross the road. Honking were heard everywhere. I could still remember the loud honking noises made by the drivers on my second day in Wuhan, in the morning. It appears to be my alarm clock that morning. Haha! Pedestrians’ lives are at risk when they cross the road. Therefore, I feel that it’s really dangerous. As compared to Singapore, China’s transport system and rules and regulations definitely have to be further improved. Lanes on the roads were not clearly defined and even if the traffic light shows green man, it is still not safe to just cross without looking out for cars. It’s definitely a new experience for many of us today. I miss the sense of security and peacefulness I feel in Singapore!

That's all for Day 05, seeya! :)
