Day 10 - Trying out the local food

Hello everyone! Today’s temperature isn’t that low as compared to yesterday. This is probably due to the rain. But there’s still cool breeze which I simply love it! As usual, we had our physiology lesson in the morning at 9am. We learnt about the nervous system which I thought was quite confusing. We also had our first quiz which consists of 12 mcq questions, right after Dr Lau has gone through the important points with us. Today’s lesson ended early, at around 12pm! J So, we went back to our rooms and waited for the local students to come and bring us out for shopping.

They finally arrived at 1 plus and the 8 of us, Jasmin, Cindy, Carol, Dion, Yan Fang and I, including the two local students, Betty and Xin Xin went out. We took the bus 607 and arrived at a shopping street called 司门口.

On the bus, Yan Fang and I sat behind a cute little boy. He was really funny and we played peek-a-boo with him! HAHA!

We finally alighted and the first food we bought was a stick of sweet rice dumpling($1.50 yuan). I shared a stick with Yan Fang. It’s not too bad but just a little sticky.

After that, we went to a street selling all sorts of food. They look yummy! We bought the skewered chicken which we had yesterday. This time round, the spices applied on the chicken made it extremely spicy and all of us had a hard time finishing it. We then went to a stall selling fish soup and had ice blended green bean soup to soothe the hotness. We also bought tofu, 生煎包, 豆皮 and many more! We felt really full and decided to have our shopping time.

户部巷, the street which sells many delicious local food.

All the tasty local food can be found in this tiny street.

Tofu and egg.

Barbequed food.

Skewered chicken. I prefer the one we bought yesterday:)

Fish soup and fried fritters.

Yan Fang. She's feeling uncomfortable after eating the spicy beef! We too felt uncomfortable.

Tofu.

生煎包. It's something similar to 小笼包, which has soup and fillings in it, except that this is pan-fried and not steamed.

This is the shop which sells 热干面. Unfortunately, we were too full. So, we did not try it.

小笼包, our favourite local food! :)

Yan Fang trying the food Xin Xin bought.

This stall sells fruit juices, desserts and ice cream.

It's 3pm!

We did not try this. It's probably some pancake, i guess.

Why is there a crowd over there? Let's see.

Oh. There's a stall selling keychains. All of them are shaped from crystals.

Railway.

Egg tarts bought from the bakery.

This is written on the ground by a begger using a chalk. I guess the datails are about his mishaps and he's probably asking for money.

After shopping, we took bus 514 and headed back to the campus. Betty suggested that we have dinner together at a nearby restaurant and so, after we put our shopping bags down in our rooms, we headed for dinner. The dinner was great and I had a fun time today! The restaurant was opened by some foreigners and I find the food delicious. The prices were reasonable as well. For the 8 of us, the dinner costs us 82 yuan, which is only about 10 yuan per person(S$2). Betty and Xin Xin were really entertaining and we chatted along the way. After dinner, Xin Xin performed for us. I took a video of her dancing tooJ

Making orders.

 Dishes ordered are as follows:

Chicken with capsicum.

Fried cabbage.

Tomato with egg.

I don't know what's the name of this dish :P

Seaweed and egg soup.

Group photo.

After a scrumptious dinner, they then sent us back to our dorms and this ended the day.

Oh right, we are going on a 3D2N Yangtze River Cruise tmr! I can’t wait for that! We weren’t supposed to bring our laptops and so, there’ll not be any posts for the next two days:) It’ll be more of like a relaxing time for us, I guess. Hope it’ll be fun!

Reflection: I really appreciate what the local students have done for us. They spend their free time bringing us out to explore around Wuhan. Also, they would never fail to interact with us and I feel really comfortable with them. They are really nice people and have contributed well as hosts! Thank you, Betty and Xin Xin!

That’s all for Day 10! Seeya soon! :D
