Day 11-13 - Yangtze River Cruise

Day 11-13 (Yangtze River Cruise)
Day 11: Friday, 240910
Hello! I’m finally back from the 3D2N Yangtze River cruise. Let me update you guys on this trip! On Friday, 24 September, we set off for the cruise. The bus ride took around 4 hours and many of us took the opportunity to sleep on the bus :P We were told that the cruise boarding area is in another city, which is not part of Wuhan, hence the travelling time is longer. Have you ever imagine how big China is? From one city to another city, it takes 4 -6 hours. For Singapore, within 1-2 hours of bus ride, we would be able to reach the other end. That’s how big China is as compared to Singapore.

On the way there, we stopped at a restaurant in a hotel for dinner. At the entrance, we saw many buses and groups of tourists as well. To my surprise, we actually saw the ICT and FMS students from NP. They were also in Wuhan for Overseas Immersion Programme but departed on a different date as ours. All of us had dinner at the restaurant and it seems like the whole restaurant is for the NP students to have their reunion dinner. Haha!

Boarding the cruise.

After dinner, we proceeded on and finally reached the boarding area at around 6 plus in the evening. After we had received our keys, we went to have a look at the rooms. The room was quite small, designed for 2. Carol and I shared a roomJ But, we realized that the carpeted ground in our room was wet! Melissa’s room as well! So, we went to informed the person-in-charge and they cleaned it up. However, the worst thing about our room is that there are many mosquitoes on the ceiling! In the end, Dion suggested that we swop room with him and both Eddy and him carried out a mosquito’s warfare and cleared the mess. They found small cockroaches and bugs too! I guess we can’t expect much since the conditions for cruise is really suitable for mosquitoes to breed. I heard that the previous batches that went for the cruise had even worse living conditions. They even witnessed the presence of rats! Can you believe it? Luckily ours were better, not by much though. Haha!

After settling down, all of us went around to explore the cruise. We went to the highest level, the 6th floor to enjoy the cool breeze and to take photos. We then explored the other levels and found out that the scenery from the 2nd floor wasn’t that bad either. It was closer to the front of the ship and the view was clearer. Some of us went there and sat on the ground. We even chatted while waiting for the ship lock. There were karaoke facilities on the cruise too! I love the temperature and the breeze! J

Here's our tour guide.

We were lucky to have the chance to alight at the other end of the creek and have a walk along the bridge they built, as well as to take photos of the beautiful scenery! Most of the photos featured Yan Fang and I as her camera battery went flat, so we shared the camera :D

After that, the tour guide recommended some of their local products such as tea leaves. I bought 2 packets, for both my grandmas. We were told that it has the effects of lowering blood cholesterol, burn fats etc. We then went back for lunch on the cruise and rested before departing for the next location. The next place we visited was called the 白帝城. We took many photos there and climbed 300+ steps. Although all of us felt tired, it was fulfilling and we had a great sense of accomplishment. We then went back and had our dinner on the cruise.

After that, we returned to the coach which brought us to a restaurant for lunch. We finally headed back to Wuhan after that. The bus ride was really long and many of us spent the time sleeping on the bus. It was delayed as there was an accident on their expressway, which caused a heavy traffic jam. At last, we finally arrived at our dorms! We missed the place very much, especially the food nearby, the aircon and the internet connection!

We had lunch at this hotel.

Jasmin wrote this when i was asleep. Hehe! :)

There was a traffic jam when we are on the way back to the hostel. This caused a delay of about 30min. Look at how impatient the China drivers were.

Sea of cabbage.

This truck overturned! It was the cause of the traffic jam.

Group photo i bought for 20 yuan.

Reflection: I realized that the Chinese locals love smoking. Wherever we go, we would meet smokers. They are really inconsiderate! They would smoke as and when they want, even in air-conditioned places such as shopping malls, tourist attractions and airport. It seems to be hard to avoid meeting these smokers. I also think that the locals are impatient. For instance, as mentioned above, we came across an incident today, regarding a traffic jam. The people were so impatient that they would leave their vehicles and climb on to the railings to have a look on what exactly has happened. This is definitely not seen in Singapore and we should be glad of that.

That’s all for the updates on the Cruise! Seeya soon! :D
